Resolutions

I have been HORRENDOUS at updating my blog, it must be said. It has been well over six months since I last posted and in that time a lot has changed, not just in my own life but with spring fast approaching, I have failed to post any autumn-winter looks that are usually my favourite kind to style:(

Having started uni in September and having to getting to grips with a new city, new people and a heavy work load, unfortunately my fashion sense (although still being important to me) slightly took a back seat during the run up to Christmas and I found myself recycling more outfits than I care to admit.

After welcoming in the new year, I decided that one of my resolutions was to make sure that I fell in love again with the things I've always been most passionate about and updating my blog was indeed one of these. Having lived in Sheffield for nearly five months now, I have no excuses for not making the most of all the photo opportunities I was lusting after for months whilst living in a small village.

I also wanted to venture outside my comfort zone in the new year, trying more looks with trousers and jeans and whilst still trying to maintain my dressy style, often playing around with looks that are more casual.

This outfit is certainly very vibrant and is perfect for spring and summer. Whilst browsing the web for some trousers I found these patterned joggers and I can tell you truthfully that a few months a go I would have completely disregarded the idea of joggers... How would I style them? Would they look odd on me? However, I found these printed joggers to be perfect for me - dressy enough to wear to meals and nights out, yet at the same time being versatile enough to dress down and wear with a basic t-shirt and a pair of boots if I wanted. Having pretty much lived in black, grey and navy for the last few months, I wanted to inject some colour into my wardrobe and I found these trousers to be the perfect solution.
I paired the trousers with a mustard bardot top as it highlighted the yellow found within the pattern on the trousers. At first glance, a yellow top might not necessarily be the most obvious choice, but I personally really like how it contrasted the green, whilst subtly drawing in attention to the detailed floral pattern.
In the pictures, I have styled it both with and without the trench coat. With it still being very cold outside, it is almost impossible to wear the outfit at the moment with out the coat, so I thought I'd finish off the look by throwing one over my shoulders. Such as with the top, the cream colour of the coat harmonises the pattern of the trousers, with the coat helping to tie the whole look together. However, whilst I do love the coat, I do believe that it is not essential for the look and during the warmer months I will certainly be braving this outfit without it.
Finally, to give this look the finishing touch it needed, I added a cream clutch and nude heels. With so much colour and print going on, I made sure the accessories took a back seat in this look but you could accessorise this look accordingly, perhaps pairing it with ankle boots or even a pair of cream trainers if you wanted this look to be more casual.

I really enjoyed styling this look and even more so, I enjoyed sharing it with you for the first time in a while.

I hope that everyone's start to the new year has been a positive one.

Thank you to my lovely friends Elena and Lea for helping me with the photos.

Here's to my first post of 2018 and here's to the many more!

Thank you for reading,
